Bereavement is a process that we go through when recovering from the death of a loved one or after being separated from something that was very important to us. During the bereavement process we can experience serious grief, which ranges from feelings of deep sadness to anger. Depending on our coping mechanisms the bereavement / grieving process can vary dramatically from one person to another.

The effects of grieving may involve

  • feelings of sadness,
  • loss,
  • anger,
  • guilt,
  • self-reproach,
  • anxiety,
  • loneliness,
  • fatigue,
  • helplessness,
  • shock,
  • emancipation,
  • relief, or numbness;

These can manifest themselves in physical sensations, such as

  • hollowness in the stomach,
  • tightness in the chest,
  • throat,
  • over sensitivity to noise,
  • depersonalisation,
  • breathlessness,

These can also result in

  • cognition of disbelief,
  • confusion,
  • preoccupation,
  • hallucinations and sense of presence.

The resulting behaviour may result in

  • sleep disturbance,
  • loss of appetite,
  • absentmindedness,
  • social withdrawal,
  • dissociation from memories of the deceased,
  • crying etc., to mention but a few.

Recovering from Grief – The normal grieving process on average may take anything up to six months to a year. One could say that you never get over the loss but you learn to live with it.

Getting Stuck in the Grieving Process – Sometimes people can be so overwhelmed that they find themselves stuck in the grieving process and cannot seem to recover from it. When this occurs other conditions may develop feelings similar to depression etc.

Good News – Combo Therapy offers any person who is finding the grieving process very difficult, a facility to release the trapped feeling of bereavement, thorough a gentle process that relieves the emotional problematic effects of bereavement. This relief is provided in just one session of Combo Therapy’s Bereavement Therapy.
